- She Studied at Sandalanka Maha Vidyalaya, she later entered Madduma Bandara Maha Vidyalaya, Weliveriya and studied G.C.E Ordinary Level and G.C.E Advanced Level.
- She studied acting in the Mayashakthi drama studio directed by Dharmajith Punarjeewa for about a year.
- She first appeared on the public stage of Ragena Avi Mamada Amy in a Bertolt Brest adaptation of a stage play. After that, she didn’t get a chance to make time on stage.
- She started her acting career in 2015 with the teledrama Hansa Pihatu telecast by Swarnavahini and directed by Jayaprakash Sivagurunathan.
- She has since appeared in a number of series, including Meedumen Eha, Eran Landu and Prana. However, her unique stint on television came through the Deweni Inima broadcast by TV Derana. Her role as "Dewmi" was very popular and she won the Most Popular Actress award at several local awards for her role.
- In 2017, Nayanathara Wickramarachchi won the Most Popular Actress award at the Raigam Tele'es Awards and Sumathi Awards.
